Elizabeth Betts grew up spending her summers hiking, fishing, and camping with her family. Her favorite natural landscape is a river or stream in a forest. “I think the sounds and smells remind me of summers spent hiking and fishing in Montana as a kid,” says Elizabeth. The Car Camping prize package is going to keep Elizabeth exploring the forests for years to come!
Favorite Outdoor Recreation Activities
Elizabeth enjoys fishing at the Deschutes and hiking throughout the Gorge. Some of her favorite hiking spots are up at Mt Hood and above Catherine Creek. She enjoys all of the waterfall trails as well! She loves being outdoors from a simple walk with her dog in the morning to fishing, hiking, camping, and skiing. When outdoors, Elizabeth enjoys landscape photography, kids, and animals.
Why Live in the Gorge
Elizabeth and her family lived in the Portland area before moving to the Columbia River Gorge. In the early 2000s, Elizabeth was doing work for the Oregon Department of Transportation. She designed several Gorge projects including the Starvation Creek Trail and interpretive parking lots in Hood River and Cascade Locks. While working on the projects she fell in love with the Columbia River Gorge. When the chance came up in 2006 to move here, they didn’t think twice!
Shortt Supply
When asked what Elizabeth appreciates most about having Shortt Supply in the community, Elizabeth responded:
Shortt Supply is a great local resource for Hood River, with loads of selection for such a small town. I recall a couple of times coming into the store the night before (or day of) the beginning of one of our kid’s sports seasons…when we realized that last year’s shoes no longer fit. The employees are always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, no matter what we are looking for.
Elizabeth doesn’t have a planned outdoor adventure at the moment, but she can’t wait to plan one and try out all the new gear! Congratulations Elizabeth!
